On holidays (New Year’s Day and Eve, Martin Luther King Day, Presidents Day, Memorial Day, Easter, Independence Day, Labor Day, Columbus Day, Election Day, Veterans Day, Thanksgiving Day and Eve, and Christmas Day and Eve), recreation center hours will change. Al Oerter Recreation Center

The Al Oerter Recreation center is a state of the art facility featuring computer room, multipurpose room, cardio room, weight room, locker rooms, dance studio, racquetball courts, indoor track and a gymnasium.

The center hosts many special events throughout the year and offers programs for children, teenagers, adults and seniors.  Programming is offered in sports, fitness, outdoor adventure, social, computers and others.

Important Usage Guidelines and Policies for all Members:

  • A lock is required to use the facility.  All belongings must be locked in a locker. No items can be laying around in any part of the facility.
  • Members must present and scan their membership ID card upon entering the facility. 
  • No jeans, boots or non athletic attire may be worn.
  • No du-rags or hats are permitted in the gymnasium.
  • Profanity or unsportsmanlike conduct is not permitted.
  • You must be 16+ to use the cardio and weight room.
  • No cell phone usage is permitted in any area except the lobby.

Dance Studio

The dance studio is used for programs, classes and events throughout the course of the week.  Classes include Dance, Start Smart, Storytime and others. 

When the studio is not in session, members may use the room (when open) to stretch and perform light abdominal and other stationary exercises.

Important Room Usage Policies

  • No music of any kind can be played in the Dance Studio.
  • Breakdancing is not allowed
  • White soled sneakers only. 
  • No drinks other than water permitted.
  • Only stationary exercises will be permitted
  • No group activity unless conducted by a NYC Parks staff member or volunteer.

 

Racquetball Courts

Use of racquetball courts requires a small hourly rental fee and goggles. Players must be over 12 years of age to be on the court.  Equipment is available for use with rental.

  • $7.00 an hour for singles (2 people on court)
  • $14.00 an hour for doubles (4 people on court)
  • $60.00 for 10 pack / 10 one hour reservations

Reservation must be made on the hour.  Purchasing the 10 pack allows you the ability to reserve up to two days in advance.  All other reservations can be made at the time you are interested in playing in person only.

Track

Track is available during regular operating hours for walking and jogging. 

14 Laps around the track will equal 1 mile. 

Important Usage Information

  • You must continue moving on track, no standing or exercising.
  • Please no drinks other than water on the track.
  • All walkers and joggers will walk/run counter clockwise.  

Cardio Room

The Cardio Room features 27 state of the art machines including Treadmills, Ellipticals, Rex Trainers, Upright Bikes, Stair Masters, Wheelchair Accessible Machines and more. 

Cardio room is equipped with music and televisions.  Cleaning supplies including spray and paper towels are provided to clean machines after use.

Important Usage Policies 

  • Each machine has a 30 minute limit per person based on clock and not machine. 
  • You may sign up for two machines in a row (not same machine or type)
  • Reservation of machines is located at the front desk.
  • Please clean machine after use.
  • You must be 16+ to use the cardio room.
  • Beginning times are pre set and begin at 6:15am and continue every half an hour.  The last time slot for the day on weekdays is 9:15pm and on weekends 4:15pm.

Adaptive Sports Program (S.P.A.R.E.S.)

January 7, 2013 – June 29, 2013

Come learn the basics of adaptive sports such as: Wheelchair Basketball, Wheelchair Football, Wheelchair tennis, Wheelchair Floor Hockey, Wheelchair Softball, Sled Hockey(on ice), Sitting Volleyball, Adapted Swimming, Power Wheelchair Soccer, Track and Field Events.

 Wheelchairs are provided for use in the program.

For youth 5 to 17 with a physical disability.
