Bicycling & Greenways

Bike Month NYC May 2007

Bike Month NYC is the perfect time to take advantage of New York City's extensive system of cycling and walking trails. Currently Parks has built over 100 landscaped miles of its proposed 50-mile greenway system. Greenways answer the growing public demand for safe and pleasant ways to travel about the city. These trails crisscross the city’s five boroughs and allow New Yorkers to get to work or school, shop or do errands, or to reach the waterfront, parks, beaches, and museums.More Info

Learn to Ride

Learn to Ride is a program for children age 5 and over. Bring your child, a bike, and a helmet for this free, fun event! Using this "balance first" method, parents help get their children rolling while the child does most of the work. Participants learn the basics of balancing, starting, stopping, and steering a bike. Most people learn to ride their bike while taking the class, but even if they don't, they will leave with an easy, hands-free, crash-free, and low-stress way to learn to ride.
