Young trees need your help! Join MillionTreesNYC as we care for Far Rockaway street trees damaged by the hurricane. The storm surge left many street trees inundated with salty water and sand, harming the soil quality around their root systems. At this specialized workshop you will learn the basics of soil remediation (improvement) and ensure a healthy future for these young trees. Volunteers will remove sand and add compost, gypsum and mulch to contaminated soil.
All participants will care for trees using small gardening tools and watering buckets. Please dress for light gardening work, wear close-toed shoes, and bring a refillable water bottle.
Pledge to take care of a specific street tree and get a free watering kit and volunteer card.
Regisitration is required.
