Please note: This event has already taken place. Please use the Search options on the right to find upcoming events.

Come to Vernon Blvd and 31st Avenue (just north of Socrates Sculpture Park) for free kayaking or canoeing. No reservation, no experience needed. All ages are welcome, but under 18 must be accompanied by a parent or guardian. Must be able to swim. Wear clothing and footwear that can get wet.

Here's how it works: Sign a waiver (minors' waivers must be signed by parent or guardian). Receive a hand stamp, wait to be called to the beach. One of our volunteers will assist you in choosing a Personal Flotation Device and paddle and will assign you a boat. Stay within the boundaries established by our buoys and patrol boats. Return to the beach after 20 minutes, return paddles and PFD's, and leave the beach promptly so we can accommodate the next paddlers. Have fun!

Notes: Last sign-in is at 4:30. Singles may be paired with another paddler, or (on request) with one of our experienced volunteers. Children under 16 must be paired with an adult. If it is necessary to cancel due dangerous weather, unsafe water quality or other circumstance, a cancellation notice will be posted on this calendar and on our hotline, (718) 228-9214 by 12 o'clock noon.
