Aquatic sports are great for all ages. They are not taxing on the bones or joints and tend to be less injury-susceptible than other sports. You can choose from a wide variety of water activities, from intense water aerobics classes to basic, individual lap swimming. (ACSM)

Beaches

Parks maintains 14 miles of beaches, all of which are open from Memorial Day weekend through Labor Day. During beach season, lifeguards are on duty daily, from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Swimming is prohibited when lifeguards are not on duty and in closed sections. Closed sections are marked with signs and/or red flags.

All 54 Parks outdoor pools have closed for the season, but the indoor pools are open year-round. Check with the individual center for the schedule.

Directions:

By Subway:
Take the A train to Utica Avenue and walk 6 blocks South to Prospect Place. Turn right and walk 1½ blocks to the center. Or take the 3 or 4 to Utica Avenue. Walk six blocks North, turn left to Prospect Place and walk 1½ blocks to the Center.

By Bus:
Take the 65 or 15 to Schenectady Avenue and walk two blocks South. Or take the 45 to Schenectady Avenue and walk three blocks North.

Driving directions:

Take FDR Drive South to the Brooklyn Bridge. After crossing bridge, stay straight until Atlantic Avenue. Turn left on Atlantic, turn right on Schenectady, turn right on Prospect Place, the center will be on your right.

Girls' Night
The entire facility is open to girls only.

Directions: By Subway: Take the L train to New Lots Avenue. Walk 3 blocks to the left on New Lots Avenue, then turn left and proceed 3 blocks on Christopher Street.

Driving directions:

From the Triboro Bridge: Take the Grand Central Parkway East to the Jackie Robinson Parkway. Continue to end of Parkway, turn left onto Pennsylvania Avenue. Proceed on Pennsylvania to Linden Boulevard (look for the Exxon and Mobile Stations on either corner). Turn right into service lane on Linden Boulevard. Proceed one mile on Linden Boulevard. You will go under two trestles overhead and then you will see the BRC on the right.

From Eastern Parkway: Take Eastern Parkway to Buffalo Avenue. Turn right onto Buffalo, which will become to Rockaway Parkway after three blocks. Stay on Rockaway and proceed to Linden Boulevard (this is a big intersection with Brookdale Memorial Hospital on the left). Turn left onto Linden. On Linden Boulevard, the BRC will be on your left after the 2nd traffic light. You will notice a green Parks flag and a small sign. The best approach is to pass the center, make your first available U-turn, and proceed in the service lane to park.

Directions:

Bus: M15 to East 54th Street and 2nd Avenue.

Subway: #6 train to 51st Street station or E and V trains to 53rd Street station. #4 or #5 train northbound to 42nd Grand Central; transfer to the #6 to 51st Street. #4 or #5 train southbound to 59th Street; transfer to the #6 to 51st Street.

Driving directions:

FDR Drive North: FDR Drive to 42nd Street exit, make a right on 3rd Avenue. Then make a right onto 54th Street. Continue traveling east to 348 East 54th Street.

FDR Drive South: FDR Drive to 53rd Street exit then make a right onto 3rd Avenue. Next, make a right on 54th Street. Continue traveling east to 348 East 54th Street.

Saturday Swim Lessons

Parks & Recreation’s Learn to Swim Program is free and offers classes for toddlers ages 3-5, children aged 6-14, and adults of all ages.
