Critical Mass is a monthly celebration of bicycles and other nonpolluting means of transportation, exercising our right to the road. Critical Mass is a movement, not an organization; no two riders participate for exactly the same reason. Brooklyn Critical Mass started rolling in 2004.

Takes place the second Friday of the month. Meet at Flatbush Ave & Prospect Park West.

 

Central Park Moonlight Ride

Age: Adult  

This is a fun, relaxing auto-free ride through Central Park. Enjoy the tranquillity of the park & its beautiful ponds & waterways: a nature lover's dream.The ride moves at a very leisurely pace with a few stops to enjoy the scenery. We usually finish before midnight, back at Columbus Circle. Total mileage is under 10 miles. We do not require lights (although if you have them you should bring them), and any kind of bike will work. Totally safe. Bike guides front & rear.

Cost: Free

Central Park to Riverside Ride

Age: Adult  

Join us on bicycles or skates for a totally safe, magical, evening ride in Manhattan. As with our Moonlight Rides, we'll share the tranquillity of Central Park, plus we'll add the grand vistas of the Hudson River from Riverside Park. The scenic tour continues down the greenway to the lovely pier where bicycles are welcome. After that, it's a pleasant ride through streets back to Columbus Circle.

Cost: Free 

Takes place the last Saturday of the month. Meet at 59th St & Central Park South.

Critical Mass is a spontaneous celebration of what our streets could look like. This fun group ride encourages new cyclists and creates safer streets and new green infrastructure. Strap some music to your bike and make sure to bring the appropriate lights and bells. Check the event calendar for additional meet-up points.

"The Prospect Park Moonlight Ride is opened to bikers and skilled skaters. Meet at 9 p.m., Grand Army Plaza, on the second Saturday of the month, every month. This is a safe, peaceful ride that visits many of the little-known treasures the park has to offer. Rain at 8:45 pm cancels the ride, period. Snow is good!!!

Meet 10:00 AM sharp at the Loeb Boathouse in New York City's Central Park, located on the left-hand side of the East Drive, North of the 5th Ave. and 72nd St. entrance to the park. Tuesday's rides are all year round. Thursdays rides sometimes meet at a different location or earlier time. Be sure to check the email for the meeting time and place. Also, we usually do not meet on Thursdays in November, December, January, February, or March Temperatures below 30º or above 90º usually cancels a ride.

You may use any of Parks' recreational spaces, except tennis courts, without a permit. However, if a permit holder arrives with a valid permit in hand, you must vacate the field or court. An individual must have a season permit or single-play ticket to use Parks' tennis courts.
