ADA Basketball Program

One on one volunteers will assist participants to learn basketball skills. The session begins with a group warm-up which includes jumping jacks, arm circles, stretches, etc. After that, our Athletes will have an opportunity to participate in different "skills stations" (such as dribbling, shooting and passing), a scrimmage game or taking in the scene to become comfortable with the level of activities. For the last 15 minutes of the session, we will come together to do a final group activity

All participants must register through KEEN and sign up for a recreation center membership.

Adaptive Basketball is McCarren's wheelchair basketball program, open to both disabled and able-bodied New Yorkers.  Sports wheelchairs are provided, so anyone can join!  Wheelchair basketball is challenging and, most of all, fun.

Come learn the basics of adaptive sports such as: Wheelchair Basketball, Wheelchair Football, Wheelchair tennis, Wheelchair Floor Hockey, Wheelchair Softball, Sled Hockey(on ice), Sitting Volleyball, Adapted Swimming, Power Wheelchair Soccer, Track and Field Events.

 Wheelchairs are provided for use in the program.

For Ages 5 and Up with a physical disability.

Must register for the program and must be a Recreation Center member.

This free program offers aquatic exercise therapy that ranges from gentle water walking to aerobic-type exercise which improves range of motion, flexibility, mobility, muscle tone, coordination, focus and strength.  The program also offers swim instruction that focuses on becoming comfortable in the water and learning basic swimming and safety skill.

Adapted Aquatics exercise offers a complete body workout and ranges from gentle walking in water to high-energy exercise; it helps alleviate pain, improve circulation, and promote healing and muscle development for those suffering from physical ailments resulting from injury, disease, or aging.

Accessible Activities

You may use any of Parks' recreational spaces, except tennis courts, without a permit. However, if a permit holder arrives with a valid permit in hand, you must vacate the field or court. An individual must have a season permit or single-play ticket to use Parks' tennis courts.
