Analyst Intern
The City of New York Department of Parks and Recreation is responsible for the maintenance and programming of nearly 30,000 acres across the five boroughs. Parks' Capital Projects Division, created in 1934 by Robert Moses, handles the design, contracting, and construction supervision for all construction and reconstruction of playgrounds, bike paths, sea walls, pools, boardwalks, historic houses and monuments, basketball courts, roller hockey rinks, baseball fields, and natural areas. Parks' Capital is responsible for nearly $200 million in projects every year.
Within the Capital Projects Division, the Systems & Analysis Team oversees project tracking, analysis, and information systems. The Team explores and implements new technologies for Capital, including computer-aided design, geographic information systems, digital storage, and database integration. These tools, along with a centralized analytical unit, will help the Capital Division improve efficiency and cut costs.
Projects that previous interns have worked on include
production of GIS maps
analysis of a $675,000 annual budget
analysis of the use of overtime
analysis of the cost of design
development of a reorganization plan for computer file storage
Strong analytical, writing, and interpersonal skills required. The application deadline is rolling, though early submission is encouraged. One or two qualified candidates wll be selected in the spring.
